The latest edition of the junior inter-league competition was marked by the unexpected performance of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional team.
They came close to winning the title! In the final, with the score tied at one match apiece against the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur league, the ARA regional team had the opportunity to win the title. The under 14, Jérémy Robert and Basile Baud, won the first point of the match, while the under 16, Anton Farah and Alexis Poireau-Dauvier, lost after a close match. The under 18, Roméo Cagneux and , had the title point in their racket, the kind of point that is referred to as a ‘penalty’. Stuck at the net, the slow ball on the forehand volley, at the right height, the opponents, resigned, had turned away, waiting for the sentence. All that remained was to finish it off. Unfortunately, the ball caught the net and went straight into the net.
That was all it took to revive Nathan Courrin and Ethan Bensoussan, who took the second set in a tie-break and cruised through the third. The PACA league won the title, but we knew we would have to reckon with the ARA league players in the future.
